URGENT MEMO TO ALL FIRE DISTRICT PERSONNEL:
Dear Valued Fire + Rescue and EMS Members,
Thank you for choosing Sound Medical and the Fire+Rescue Medical Program. It is our privilege to care for you and provide your First Responder healthcare services, especially in times of need.
I am sending you this memo to reassure you that during this COVID-19 Pandemic, we are taking aggressive proactive measures to mitigate all risk of exposure to our First Responder community. Your health and safety are our top priority.
All of our Providers are N.Y.S. Infection Control Certified and although we have not yet had an identified Covid Patient (PUI) or staff member in either office practice, as of March 17th all potential Covid Healthsure Patients were not seen in the office and were treated by Telemedicine or were diverted to hospital ED, Triage Centers or ‘Walk-ins’. Despite these disease mitigation measures we are instituting the following, effective immediately to further protect our staff, Patients and First Responders:
- All CFR 1910 respiratory testing (PFT) and Mask Fit Testing, both N-95 and SCBA have been suspended until further notice to remove any and all real or perceived risk.
- Routine Fire+Rescue Physical Exams WILL NOT be performed during regular office hours at either the Medford or Islandia Fire+Rescue Health Center locations and members are being asked to schedule at different times listed below.
- Physical Exams will continue to be offered with appointments every Thursday evening from 5PM to 8PM at the Islandia location, where the office is exclusively set up for First Responder Medical Certifying Physical exams only. All departments are welcome!

- The Fire+Rescue Health Center in Islandia will be available every Sunday from 9:00-12:00 exclusively for COVID Antibody Testing and First Responder Medical Certifying Physical exams to all members regardless of contractual affiliation. Simply, bring an approved voucher and receive a base physical for only $95*. Plus, DOT physicals are free ($125 value) if done during the same visit. (Members will not be sharing areas with any general Patients and minimally with other First Responders.)
- All of our Providers are N.Y.S. Infection Control Certified and staff execute tasks following strict OSHA, CDC and DOH infection control guidelines.
- All Exam candidates are treated individually, no waiting, no mingling with other Patients, minimal physical contact with staff, PPE provided to staff and examinee.

*The evaluation includes but is not limited to appropriate history and physical, vision and hearing testing CFR1910. OSHA respiratory program screening questionnaire, EKG and a requisition for blood work at the lab is so desired. We take full responsibility for notifying the member and fire department of our opinion of the member’s status.
