Save-a-Heart Program

On average, Firefighters die at the scene, once a week from heart attack (NFA 2016). Something is very wrong and has to change!

Firefighter Physicals should not be a ‘rubber stamp’ clearance for duty. Sound Medical conducts a Cardiac Risk Assessment with every Physical. Every Member we examine is automatically enrolled in the Save-a-Heart Program, and is informed in detail of their Cardiac Risk Assessment and what they need to do to avoid becoming a tragic statistic. Prevention is the key to protecting the lives of those who protect the public each and every day.

The “Gold Standard” of Coronary Artery testing;
256 Slice, Cat Scan of the Coronary Arteries

After examination, if a member is deemed to be at significant risk for coronary artery disease, according to agencies such as The American Heart Association and US Task Force on Preventive Services–emergency personnel are offered the unique opportunity to undergo the “Gold Standard” of Coronary Artery Testing; 256 Slice Cat Scan–the only non-invasive testing that determines exactly how much coronary plaque an at risk member may have in a each artery and accurately predicts their risk, as well as serves as a guide for appropriate intervention.

In addition to the Cat Scan of the Coronary Arteries, we are also the only Medical Program for The Fire Service, offering members the full complement of Cardiac Assessment and Testing and Intervention;

  • EBT Calcium CT of the heart
  • Nuclear Stress Testing
  • Echocardiogram
  • Carotid  Doppler
  • ABI and Aneurysm screening
  • Cardiologist evaluation
  • Heart health education
